The 600-megawatt power plant, under construction by Bechtel in Hayward will be making some noise on May 11th to May 12.PG&E has scheduled a tie in to their gas transmission line number 153, which serves the power plant, and they will be working with their contractor, ARB, to tie in the line starting on Friday, May 11th and continuing into the weekend.

The tie-in work will necessitate venting the gas lines, which will release some gas into the atmosphere. The only venting location in Hayward will be at West Winton Avenue near the railroad tracks. ARB’s crew will be working all day and the operation will be loud. PG&E will be employing all necessary safety and health measures, including installation of Air Movers at both locations. Air Movers are pieces of equipment necessary to circulate the air for quicker dissipation of gas into the atmosphere, and they will likely add to the noise levels.

Also, members of PG&E’s Customer Impact team will be canvasing the area around the venting site on Wednesday, May 9th and speaking to the customers near the site to inform them of the scheduled work. An automated voice phone recording is also scheduled to be sent on Thursday, May 10th to customers within 500 feet of the test segment.

    Thumbnail Image Income Tax Fraud

Income tax fraud is one of the fastest growing types of Identity Theft and the most difficult to prevent. It cannot be detected by a fraud alert, credit freeze or by monitoring your other existing accounts. The only way to prevent income tax fraud is by making sure you file your taxes before anyone else can. If you are already the victim of identity theft or believe your information has been compromised you may also file an affidavit with the IRS. Once filed, the IRS attaches a password to your social security number, which is sent to you prior to tax time and is required to file your taxes. Unfortunately the Franchise Tax Board does not yet offer the same option.

If someone has filed a tax return using your personal information or you receive a notice of back taxes owed do to someone having worked using your personal information….contact the IRS and the Franchise Tax Board, in addition to the steps already listed above. Do not assume that it is only your taxes that are affected.

Thumbnail Image Help Support the Literacy Plus Program!

Everyone knows recycling is good for the environment, but did you know that recycling is also good for Literacy Plus? We have just partnered with Planet Green, a printer cartridge and cell phone remanufacturing and recycling company, to start an exciting new fundraiser that recycles mobile phones and used printer cartridges – and we want you to be part of it!

If you use a printer, each spent cartridge could earn the Literacy Plus program up to five dollars! Any old cell phones in your drawer? Those can make up to $40. One phone may not seem like much, but if you get your co-workers and family involved – recycling is a great way for everyone to go green, while raising money for a cause!

Taking part is easy – simply drop off your used inkjet cartridges (inkjet ONLY) and old cell phones with us – you can include cell phone batteries and even cell phone chargers. The drop-off location is Literacy Plus/Hayward Public Library 835 C Street, Hayward, CA 94541.

Your participation in this recycling campaign will raise greatly needed funds for the Literacy Plus program. Let’s work together, one cartridge and cell phone at a time, to clean up the planet and raise money for a worthwhile cause!
